As the world's population continues to expand, there is a dire need for creating shared value in the food industry. This is because it is expected that there would be more than 9 billion people living on this planet by 2050 (United Nations). That means, there would be more mouths to feed.
Access to good nutrition, safe water sources, and sustainable business are needed to meet the challenge that comes with the growing population. To meet these challenges and tackle poverty, disease, and malnutrition, innovative solutions are expected.

Creating Shared Value
Creating Shared Value involves harnessing the power of private enterprises to tackle social challenges with sustainable business solutions. This is a philosophy that has long driven decision making at Nestlé and it is reflected by their company purpose, - to enhance the quality of life and contribute to a healthier future.
"We’ve also spent time finding and supporting entrepreneurs who exemplify Creating Shared Value through their business ideas and actions. Harnessing these innovations will put new solutions on the table and, at the same time, help spread wealth and prosperity. To recognize and promote the work of pioneers in this field, we launched the Nestlé Creating Shared Value Prize in 2010. Today we launch its 2018 edition." - Christian Frutiger, Global Head of Public Affairs at Nestle
