Children are the heritage (inheritance) of the Lord and the fruit of the womb, His reward, so says the book of life. How do you treat your inheritance? How do you guard your rewards? It is no doubt that everyone treasures what they inherited (whether bought or giving). It is also true that we place value on the good rewards we get from the things we do. How much more children?

Children are the most special people on earth. They are meant to be treasured and not spoilt. Everyone was once a child before he/she became an adult. It doesn’t matter what your childhood was like. Now that you have a child or children, you have to place value on them. If you desire to have a child or children too, it is important you know that children are kept in your care by God and you will give account for how you brought them up.

The leaders of today were definitely children of yesterday. The future leaders of tomorrow are definitely going to be our children. (Please note, youths are the leaders of today). So, whatever we want our future to be like is what we make of our children. It is people that make places. Places don’t make people. The future we look into will be made by people. These people are our children. If we raise misinformed children, we will definitely have misinformed leaders of tomorrow. The stage of childhood is a foundational level. How we build this foundation matters a lot. We build children with the words we speak, the things we do, what we make important to them, the experiences we share with them, the things we allow them to see on TV and or Internet amongst other things. We build children with the way we live our lives.

A child is good or bad based on what we make of them. They are like plain sheet of paper which we use a pencil to write on. If you write rubbish on the paper and choose not to clean it or make amends, what you get is useless sheet of paper. If you write rubbish and made correction where appropriate, what you get is a useful sheet of paper. If you write good stuffs and you don’t need to make corrections, what you get is a perfect sheet of paper. In most cases, the last example doesn’t happen. It is possible but rare. The first example shows a bad child or bad children while the second example shows a good child or good children.

If we really want to associate with future leaders, then we must build up good children. If we really want our children to remember us at all after we are long dead, then we need to groom them in the right way. If we really want people to talk well of us in our social group, then we need to teach and show our children the way to go. If we don’t want to be disgraced by a spoilt child, then we must not build a spoilt child. If you don’t want your child to ignore you in public when you ask him or her to do something, then train them to be respectful, obedient, and courteous. If you want your children to be better than you, then give them the tools they need, build them up to have the right mindset and open them to necessary skills that will be beneficial to them.

What makes a good child who will become great future leaders?

There are various important ways to do these. I will be showing the most important four (4). Here we go.

1. A good child is Spiritually Educated

Parents need to make sure that their children is spiritually educated. When I say “spiritually educated” I mean that the child knows that his/her root is not in his/her mother’s womb but in God. A spiritually educated child knows that he/she is in this life to make things happen for God. A spiritually educated child knows that evil is not good.

Parents need to help their children build a strong foundation in God. They need to teach their children the basics about belief in God. This is where every great ending starts from. Children needs to be given the opportunity to go to (children’s) church, learn about the faith and take up responsibilities in line with what they are taught. They should be taught to pray, read the bible, live a life pleasing to God etc. They should be given all they need to know so as to build a solid foundation in God. 2. A good child is Morally Intelligent

A morally intelligent child is built by the parents and the elders around him/her. Children need to be taught what is good and what is bad. They need to know the advantages and disadvantages of everything that has to do with morals. They should be trained with the right principles. It is a duty for everyone to build a morally intelligent child. Let them know what they need to do per time and why it is important to do so.

Children are generally inquisitive. They always want to know why some things are done the way they are done. Yours is to help them see how the things are in full. Let them see why such things are good and why such things are bad. A teach and show them to follow the good part. Their being intelligent is in your hand. Make them one. 3. A good child is Money Clever

Being money clever is the children’s form of being financially intelligent. Financial Education pays off for our children. It’s never too early to start training children to be money clever. In order not have future leaders that will misappropriate our nation’s fund, we need to build up money clever kids right from their tender age (from age 6). It is in our hands to prepare how next generation of leaders to be financially intelligent.

Whether we like it or not, money is very important. We must train our children how to place value on money and how to make good use of them. You don’t want a forty year old man who is still a babe in the issue of money. It all starts now! We have being conditioned to go to school, get a good grade, get a well paying job, retire after a while and die. It is time set a new and better order of doing things. Train your children to be financially intelligent. Train them to be money clever. You will be doing them a lot of good. Open them up to the basics of money. 4. A good child knows the truth about Sex

Yes! You will be amazed to know that little kids know a little about sex already. It is in your hands to guide them to really know the truth about sex. If you leave them to themselves, you will be sorry for yourself. The best time to teach them the truth about sex is now (age 4 and above). Start when they are four years old and increase the tempo of their knowledge about sex as they grow older. I believe the truth that makes free should not be hidden from them. If you don’t train them, they will get trained by people outside, what they see on the TV and on the internet.

Sex is an important topic you should not restrain from your kids. If you don’t want a sexually immoral future leader as your child, then mentor, coach, support and train them to know the truth about sex. This post might be long; I believe that it is worth the read. Don’t stop at reading. I didn’t write so that you will read alone but to read and act in line with what you read. It is your choice to build up your children in the way to go. I see the building of future leaders who were built consciously by their parent, teachers, uncles, aunties and other elders.
