Am I Committed to Personal Growth?

The life we live in requires us to fulfill a purpose, to succeed at our dreams and to live on the best side of life. But most times, we find ourselves not doing what life really requires of us. We want to succeed at what we do but we find ourselves falling short of success. Failing short of success is not really bad. What is bad is falling short and not doing anything to get back on track. We are human with life flowing through us. The life requires us to grow daily.

Whether we like it or not, we grow old for every new day. You may stop your clock/watch but you can’t stop time or days from performing its cycle. The question now is, are you committed to your personal growth? Are you committed to your personal development? I know, you may say yes that you are but if you really think about this, you may find out that you are not really committed. You just make sure you are doing something as the day goes by. To be committed means to be dedicated and loyal to a cause, activity, or job wholeheartedly.

Are you committed to your personal growth? It’s a two-way thing, it’s either you are growing or you are dying. This is in part about the body (physical growth or physical death). The other part is more about your soul (mind – the set of cognitive faculties that enables consciousness, perception, thinking, judgment, memory etc) and your spirit (the spirit you have by the breath of God in you). Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost you all you have, get understanding. Keep reading, keep learning, keep asking questions. A Chinese proverb says “He who asks is a fool for five minutes; he who doesn’t ask remains a fool forever”.

Some of us are like the little girl who thought she had exhausted the subject of mathematics once she learned her twelve-times table. When her grandfather asked with a twinkle, “What is thirteen times thirteen?” she scoffed, “Don’t be silly, Grandpa, there is no such thing!”. Your hunger for knowledge and wisdom determines your future. In order to keep giving out, you need to keep taking in.

You need to keep growing in your knowledge and wisdom with respect to your life’s purpose and dreams. There is still more to learn, more to know and more to do. Only then will you be able to live on the best side of life that you have been imagining. Go ahead and be committed to your personal growth.
