The European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI) is an initiative designed to drive significant changes in Europe’s digital landscape. It was designed with the intention to improve digital identity and security across Europe.

Furthermore, the EUDI wallet promises to provide a safe, reliable, and private means of digital identification for everyone in Europe. With the wallet, users can easily prove who they are, safely store, share, and sign important digital documents.

Objectives of the European Digital Identity Wallet

Its main objectives include the following.

Availability of the European Digital Identity Wallet

Although, several countries have already initiated the rollout, all EU member states are expected to provide EUDI Wallets to their citizens, residents and organizations by the end of 2026.

Initially, the EUDI Wallet will include government-issued credentials, such as personal ID, address, family relationships, driving license and more. However, the EUDI Wallet can also hold certificates from private bodies, including financial data, insurance records, professional qualifications, travel documents and more.

This comprehensive digital identity ecosystem will be decentralized, with the user retaining complete control over their data. It will simplify business processes while maintaining high levels of security.
