The Power of Water and Jobs

Power of Water and Jobs

Do you know the power of water and jobs? Actually, this power can be seen everywhere as water is essential to life. Also, nearly all jobs require water either directly or indirectly. To make the most of this and get people to be aware of the importance, the World Water Day 2016 would be on water and jobs.

On World Water Days, people everywhere show that they care and that they have the power to make a difference. They get inspired by information and use it to take action and change things. This year, 2016, many will focus on the power that water and jobs have to transform people’s lives.

Nearly all jobs are related to water and those that ensure its safe delivery. Today, almost half of the world’s workers – 1.5 billion people – work in water-related sectors. Yet the millions of people who work in water are often not recognised or even protected by basic labour rights. This needs to change.

Better water, better jobs.

The theme in 2016 — water and jobs — is focusing on how enough quantity and quality of water can change workers’ lives and livelihoods – and even transform societies and economies.

The UN-Water coordinates the UN’s work on water and sanitation for a better world. Through UN-Water, UN entities and international partners work together to place water and sanitation as top issues and 21 Century essential knowledge. World Water Day is one of UN-Water’s campaigns that aims to inform, engage and inspire action.

World Water Days events are organized globally. To participate in an event close to you or to start an event in this regard, check World Water Day events page.
