₦3 Million Grants to ICT Businesses in Nigeria

Diamond Bank’s Building Entrepreneurs Today (BET) programme, an annual capacity building and business education project aimed at generating interest in entrepreneurship has began accepting applications for its fourth season.


Launched in 2010, the programme is designed to train 50 budding entrepreneurs over a period of six months after which the top five entrepreneurs are awarded N3 million grants to grow their businesses.

While previous editions of the BET programme were open to entrepreneurs involved in diverse economic sectors and businesses, the 2014 edition was open to only entrepreneurs involved in Agriculture, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Renewable Energy.

The programme is one of Diamond Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives with partnership from the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of the Pan Atlantic University where the entrepreneurs are trained and their businesses nurtured under the BET programme.

To participate, interested applications will need to create and upload a 60 seconds video pitch about their business that is fun, creative or innovative on YouTube, fill the BET online application here, including the YouTube link and get all of their friends to vote for the video.

Applications for the programme have already begun and closes July 23, 2015.


Nigeria to hit $1 trillion in GDP by 2030

Nigeria is projected to be the first African country to hit $1 trillion in GDP by 2030. Nigeria’s economy will more than double in the next 15 years, according to projections from the United States Department of Agriculture. Today, with an annual GDP of around $500 billion, Africa’s largest economy is 27th in the world. By 2030 it is expected to climb up to 19th place just ahead of the Netherlands. Continue reading

112 Million Nigerians Lack Access to Basic Sanitation

Water Aid Nigeria, an international non-governmental organisation has put the number of people in Nigeria with lack of access to basic sanitation at 112 million. The policy Adviser of the organization, Mr Saheed Mustapha who said this an interview with newsmen in Abuja also restated the commitment of the organization to increasing access to water in the rural areas. Mr Mustapha said that the 112 million of people was a two third of the nation’s population, adding that the group was committed to ensuring that more people especially in the rural areas have access to water. Find Your PVC Pickup Location Online

According to INEC, the PVC (Permanent Voters Card) is smart card based voters’ identity with voter’s information such as bio-data, bio-metric and facial image. The card technology provides adequate security features to reduce vulnerability to counterfeiting and shall be used for identification and authentication of voters during elections in Nigeria. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is currently doing everything possible to ensure that every validly registered voter get his/her Permanent Voter Card (PVC) to be able to exercise their franchise in the 2015 General Election.
