Hack Against Hunger Hackathon

The Hack Against Hunger hackathon is part of The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum scheduled to be held from 19-23 March 2018. The forum represents the world’s largest annual gathering of the ‘ICT for development’ community of which the 2018 WSIS forum will provide a global multi-stakeholder platform for facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines and the advancement of Sustainable Development Goals.

 
One of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals is “Zero Hunger” and the Hack Against Hunger hackathon is a challenge organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

 
The Hack Against Hunger hackathon comes up between Sunday, 18th and Monday 19th March 2018 at the ITU headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Basically, FAO and ITU want you to develop an innovative digital solution to enhance food security and end hunger in middle-and lower-income countries. The innovative solution should be able to benefit smallholders and family farmers. The innovative solutions could be in the following categories.

 

 
To give you some ideas, you can explore the various areas below.

#1. Awareness raising

  • Preventing risk of natural disasters and food chain crises
  • Avoiding Food Loss and Waste
  • Cropping and breeding best practices
  • Increasing incomes receiving tailored information

#2. Behaviour

  • Taking best decisions based on advisory services
  • Finding clean and plentiful water sources
  • Creating agricultural and financial incentives to drive behaviour change
  • Empowering women and youth
