We live in a world of “creators”. People create things every day, whether digitally or non-digitally. You can find some of these creations all around you right now as you read this.
Creating involves coming up with new ideas or solutions. People with this ability often comes up with new ideas. Other people see them as creative.
“Creating” as a Competency
People with a high level of this ability will constantly be regarded by others as creative, witty, or original. They also have ideas that others would not be too quick to come up with. However, these people are not readily satisfied with the familiar. They also sometimes do not think ideas through enough. These ideas often do not come to fruition.
People with a low level will find it difficult to come up with something new. They are entangled in a particular thinking pattern which makes them only come up with existing solutions or ideas.
A high level of this competency is useful when it is very important to come up with new ideas, approaches, or solutions. For example, roles that involve designers or developers are required to be very creative.
How Can you Develop this Competency?
There are many ways to go about this. However, here are four tips you can start with right now.
- make a habit to occasionally solve fun puzzles or brainteasers.
- use your imagination to imagine completely different possibilities.
- develop an interest in one or more forms of art.
- network with the creative people you know and learn how they come up with ideas.
