There is a day and there are days. There is a season and there are seasons. There is a time and there are times. I don’t know the origin of this particular day but I’m glad we all have it. We have the Christmas day, the Easter day, the Mother’s day, the Father’s day and so many others to numerous to mention. Yesterday was Africa’s Day, today is Today and tomorrow is Children’s Day. This is not the first Children’s Day and I guess it won’t be the last.

Children’s day need no big definition; it is simply the day set apart to celebrate children’s worldwide. Children in Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, North America, South America and other places on this earth where there are human beings. It is the day set apart to turn our focus towards children. It is the day set apart to give gifts to children. It is a day set apart to make children know that they are special. It is a day set apart for children to enjoy themselves more. Anyway, you all know what children’s day is all about and I don’t have to bore you with that.

My main concern in putting up this is what the bible says about children. The bible says,

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them” – Psa 127:3-5 NLT.

No doubt about this. Parents, you have been given a gift and a reward for your union as one. You know what a gift is. You know how you guard the gift you are given on this earth jealousy. How much more a gift giving to you from heaven? How much do you guard and guide this gift called Children? How do you treat the divine reward you were given? Fathers, mothers, do you neglect your children for things that are ephemeral or what?

This reminds me of a true life story I once heard. A 7 year old girl was given a weekend assignment in school by her teacher to draw her family using their favourite spot in their house as background. The following day, a Saturday, the girl was busy drawing. She drew well to her satisfaction. On Sunday, the father asked her daughter about her assignment. The girl told her father what the assignment was. The father wanted to see what she drew. She went ahead and brought the assignment to his father. Though she was not Leonardo Da Vinci but her father couldn’t see the codes (he didn’t understand the drawing). So, he asked the girl, ‘who are those in the drawing?’ The girl pointed and said this is mum, this is my elder brother and this is my younger sister. The father then asked, ‘Where am I?’

You know what that mean already. The man was never around not even when they are seated at their favourite spot. Parents, treat you children well. All they need is your time, your love, your assurance of them. Provide their needs. Discipline them in the right way. Lay up inheritance for them. Have them in all your plans. They really want to know if you are their father or mother. If you do not, they will seek it elsewhere. And you should know that there are many other ways they will look to if you are not there. They need you to train them in the way to go. They need you to show them the way that is right in love and they are ready to go ahead and explore on their own. Yoruba people says, “Omo ti a o ko ni yo gbe ile ti a ko ta” translation The Child we didn’t train or build up will be the one to sell the house we built. Please know fully well that you will give account of these gifts and the rewards you were given IF you make heaven and you will suffer in hell IF you misuse these gifts and rewards. Parents, the ball is in your court. The child is in your house.

Children are like arrows in a warrior’s hands. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them. Jesus’ childhood days is a perfect example of how ‘arrowhic’ (I don’t know which word to use) children are. Every child is sent here as an arrow to achieve something extraordinary. Parents, we already know what you have become. We know you as a banker, a doctor, a whatever! but you don’t know what we can become. What we become is dependent on how you love and value us. This is the voice of a child speaking through me. Children are indeed like arrows in a warrior’s hand. You do not know what the havoc or the blessing the arrow can cause. You do not know what your children will become. The Lord gave them as blessings and expects them to be an extraordinary blessing to their generation and generations after. It is left to you parents to make them so or make them a curse. If you don’t take children as arrows, you will misuse them and not achieve what they are meant to be. I implore you parents to place value on your children. It is what you show them that they necessarily become. If I see a kid mis-behaving, I won’t necessarily blame the kid but his/her parent. You child can be the next Obama or the next Osama; the next millionaire who made money legally or the next chief scammer; the next good or the next badoo. It is up to you and how often you receive directions from Lord the giver on how to make these projects successful.

Parents, you should take a study on how Jesus treated children when He was here on earth. He valued them. He loved them. He spent time with them. He showed people in His days what value children has even to the extent that he feed five thousand fully grown men with a little boy’s lunch park. Now, that is value on the side of Jesus and greatness on the part of the kid. What do you think the little boy’s parent would have felt? Ofcourse, the kid didn’t provide the lunch park for himself. Also, he didn’t go to where Jesus was because he felt so. He must have seen his parents around Jesus sometimes. The young boy was also ready to offer his lunch park to feed other people. How many of your children can show that act of love and kindness? Parents, think on these.

Now to children, it is definitely your day. Your parents have their part, you also have your own part to play. You need to constantly obey your parents under the will of God. Listen to your parents instruction and follow the instructions to the dot. Honour your parents and everyone old enough to be your parents. Your education begins at home, take corrections. Do what your parents ask you to do. Respect your parents now even till their old age. Value your parents. See them as your friend. Always share what you are feeling with them. They understand and will help you out. They are ready to make you better than they are. Children, take care of your parents. Don’t see them as your father Christmas or your mother Christmas alone. See them as your role model. Your parents are indeed your first role model. Children, learn ways to do well unto your parents. Children, it is up to you to make your parents who they are. People should be able to see you outside your house and bless your parents. The can become possible by doing only good…

I am no parent but the Holy Spirit is teaching me the truth about parenthood. I am still a child as long as I still have a mother even though my father is late. My life is full of different experiences as a child and now as a youth. I can vividly picture some areas of my life when I was much younger than this. All the experiences as mould me into what I am now. Imagine, a kid who left his father’s house at the age of 3 because of divorce (don’t you ever blame my father unless you want to start seeing ghost in your dreams). I had no or little fatherly touch, except for some few uncles here and there. God bless my mother even though she was not there few times. You know, she had to take care of my younger sister and I. We stayed with our great grandmother (you know what that means) while she was doing business to make ends meet. When she could no longer bear it, we had to be transferred to boarding house. I spent almost 12 years of my life in boarding house (primary and secondary). Friend, I have experience. My eyes have seen, my hears have heard and m mouth will talk about it. Anyway, let me stop this before I turn this into the story of my life. I will definitely start writing about my life story soon.
